I want to start a blog series of advice, tips + some ideas for brides! So here is the first of the series:

Choosing The Right Venue.

This can be a pretty tough decision, especially if you are sticking to a certain price range {because venue's can become SUPER expensive!!} Plus when you are out searching it can become really overwhelming! You see all these amazing ideas in magazines, blog posts, pinterest and websites! Whew! One minute you're dreaming of a rustic barn shoot, the next you are thinking of a classic black tie soiree in downtown D.C. So where does the madness make sense? How do you REALLY choose what's right for you??

Just like I tell my couples planning the Engagement Shoot, pick a location that represents you + him as a couple. If you like hip-downtown spots then choose a nice urban area like a venue in DC or Alexandria! If you like the outdoors choose a venue that has lakes and mountain views. Don't choose a barn if it has nothing to do with your vision...granted you can make a barn look super elegant...but you want a location YOU love and want to have your memories created at. Another thing while looking for your venue is to visit around the time your ceremony will take place. Is the sun going to be directly in your eyes? Is there shaded areas for pictures and where your guests can get away from the heat of the sun (if in the summer). I know those are CRAZY things to look for but you definitely don't want to be squinting at your husband at the alter! Also when visiting make sure they have a solid back-up plan for the "ironic" rain on your wedding day {que Alanis Morissette} venue's should have an alternative in place for those "just in case" moments-so just make sure you are covered!

It's not always possible, but when scouting for your perfect location-check into where you will be getting ready. Is it well lit? (Window light is the best light) Is it free of distractions or can they be easily removed? Those getting ready shots are important too, they help tell the story just as much as the rest of the portraits. I know this can't always work out, so if there is another place that has some really great natural light then portraits can most likely be taken there!

There are some really amazing options for locations at ALL price ranges. I have a few options on my vendor list! Some venue's offer lower rates for non-peak days (Mon-Thur)-which is another great option for you to check out! No matter the venue you can make it completely you + I know it will be just as fabulous as you are<3

Happy Venue Hunting!
